About Category 1 Specification

Category 1 is one of the classifications found in Table 4.3 and applies to defined movement floors for Very Narrow Aisles (VNA).
Its purpose is to ensure that the surface regularity of a floor meets industry standards, depending on how high the racking in the VNA is. The table below outlines the properties of Table 4.3 found in "The Concrete Society's Technical Report No 34" (TR34), and shows the different floor classifications including Category 1:

Importance of a VNA floor meeting specification

For a VNA truck to perform efficiently, it’s essential that the floor is to a high standard. If the floor is not flat, the potential for truck lean is increased by the lifting height. View the static lean table here.

Floor Flatness is also important for the following reasons:

• lift trucks can operate more efficiently


• Surface irregularities will cause excessive vibration on a lift truck which leads to increased down time and maintenance


• Health and Safety and the reduction of driver fatigue


• Reduced stock damage


• Gives a control on the general quality of a floor when constructed
